Hearst Castle is a mansion built by publishing giant, William Randolph Hearst.  It is situated at the top of a large hill in San Simeon, California with sweeping views of the valleys and ocean below.  Hearst formally named the estate “La Cuesta Encantada” which means “The Enchanted Hill”. Hearst began building his “bungalow” in 1919 and continued to add onto it all the way until 1947, he was never finished and even today there are exterior elements that were never finished.  Hearst Castle is both a California and National Historical Landmark.
